The best periods to undertake this tour are in the autumn from late September to early November and in the spring from early April until mid June.
This package includes: 7 nights bed and breakfast, 6 simple packed lunches + 1.5 l of water each day, baggage transfers during tour, emergency support phone line, 4x4 emergency support vehicle, walk information pack, obligatory personal accident insurance.
We also provide detailed information about public transport to the region from Faro and Lisbon or a taxi/minibus transfer from either Faro or Lisbon airports can be arranged.
It excludes: flights, airport transfers (unless requested), travel insurance, dinners, other drinks, personal expenses and gratuities. Omissions or exclusions from this list does not infer that such items are included.
Day one: Arrival in the Alentejo. Overnighting near the village of São Luís at a rural guest house with use of swimming pool (in season), where you can relax on the terrace and take in the wonderful views of the “Alentejo Montado”.
Day two: Welcome meeting after breakfast at your guest house before the first walk from São Luís to Cercal do Alentejo. A 21 km (6 -7 hours) walk along a stage of the Historical Way through the hills between São Luís and Cercal. Your accommodation for the night is an Art Nouveau-style inn featuring traditional Alentejo-style décor near the centre of the town.
Day three: Cercal do Alentejo to Porto Covo das Bandeiras. An 18 km (4½- 5 hour) walk along a stage connecting the Historical Way to the Fishermen's Trail. The night will be spent at a small inn in the main street off the village square.
Day four: Porto Covo das Bandeiras to Vila Nova de Milfontes. A 20 km (6-7 hours) hike starting from the northernmost point of the Fishermen's Trail. You will spend the night at a small hotel or guesthouseclose to the castle.
Day five: Vila Nova de Milfontes to Almograve. A 15 km (4½-5 hours) easy walk continuing on the Fishermen's Trail along the coast. You will spend the night at a delightful guest house situated just behind the sand dunes.
Day six: Almograve to Zambujeira do Mar. A 21km (6-7 hours) walk heading south from Almograve. You will spend the night at a small guest house close to the village centre.
Day seven: Zambujeira do Mar to Odeceixe. An 18 km (5½-6 hours) walk along a coastal path to the Algarve village of Odeceixe. You will spend the night at a small guest house close to the village centre.
Day eight: Departure from Odeceixe.
