Self guided walking over six days along the Historical Way of the Rota Vicentina from its northernmost point at Santiago do Cacém to Odeceixe.
The package includes 7 nights bed and breakfast accommodation in family owned and managed guest houses, together with pic-nic lunches and one evening meal. Optional airport transfers by taxi/minibus can also be arranged.

The best periods to undertake this tour are in the autumn from late September to early November and in the spring from early April until the end of June.
This package includes: 7 nights bed and breakfast, 1 evening meal (excluding alcohol) on day two, 6 simple packed lunches + 1.5 l of water each day, baggage transfers during tour, emergency support phone line, 4x4 emergency support vehicle, walk information pack, obligatory personal accident insurance.
We also provide detailed information about public transport to the region from Faro and Lisbon or a taxi/minibus transfer from either Faro or Lisbon airports can be arranged.
Excluding: flights, airport transfers (unless requested), travel insurance, dinners, other drinks, personal expenses and gratuities. Omissions or exclusions from this list does not infer that such items are included.
Day one: Arrival in the Alentejo. Overnighting in the town of Santiago do Cacém at a guesthouse close to the historical centre and the northern starting point of the Rota Vicentina.
Day two: Welcome meeting after breakfast at your guest house before the first walk from Santiago do Cacém to Vale Seco. A 21 km (6 -7 hours) walk along a stage of the Historical Way through the hills between Santiago do Cacém and Vale Seco. Your accommodation for the night is in the converted mill buildings of the 19th century twin windmills, Moinhos do Paneiro, directly on the trail.
Day three: Vale Seco to Cercal do Alentejo. A 20 km (5 - 5½ hours) walk passing Campilhas Dam & Reservoir on what is considered to be the most arrid stage of the Historical Way. The night will be spent at an art nouveau style guesthouse in the centre of the village.
Day four: Cercal do Alentejo to São Luis. A 21 km (6-7 hours) walk through the "serras" with views to the coast and inland over the Alentejo plains. The night will be spent at a rural guesthouse in a typical Alentejano style farmhouse just outside the village.
Day five: São Luis to Odemira. A 25 km (7-8 hours) walk known as the water section of the Historical Way, where there is an optional but recommended side trail to Pego da Pias pools. The night will be spent at a family owned pension in the centre of Odemira .
Day six: Odemira to São Teotónio. A 19km (6 hours) walk , for much of the route the trail follows the River Mira and the River S. Teotonio along wide trails. The night will be spent in a small hotel on the edge of the town
Day seven: São Teotónio to Odeceixe. A 17 km (5½-6 hours) walk along some inhospitable but truly memorable trails to the Algarve village of Odeceixe. You will spend the night at a small guest house close to the village centre.
Day eight: Departure from Odeceixe.
An optional extra night at Santiago do Cacém, before the start of the walking programme, is recommended. This will give you the opportunity to make a 10km circular walk to visit the town's castle,the historic centre and the ruins of the Roman town of Mirobriga just outside the town.
There is also an option to spend an extra night at Odeceixe to be able to take a 15 km circular walk from the village along a short section of the Historical Way and returning to the village via the northernmost loop of the Fishermen's Trail in the Algarve.
